1. Consistency Is Key
The number one predictor of progress? Showing up. Just like with school or sports, consistent attendance in therapy sessions makes a huge difference in your child's success. When you miss sessions regularly, you lose valuable momentum, and it takes time to rebuild that progress. Weekly therapy is most effective as part of a steady, reliable routine.
At NeuroKids, we encourage families to treat therapy like a standing appointment: something sacred on the calendar. When you prioritize therapy, your child gets the consistent exposure they need to grow, develop, and thrive.
2. What Happens at Home Matters, Too
Therapy doesn't stop when the session ends.
Your child might attend therapy once or twice a week, for about an hour each time. That's just 60–120 minutes of targeted practice, an important start but not enough. What really accelerates progress is what happens during the other 10,000+ minutes of the week.
That's why our therapists partner with you, the parent or caregiver, every step of the way. We'll show you how to support your child's goals at home with simple, everyday activities that promote practice and progress. Your role is essential in modeling speech sounds during play, encouraging turn-taking at the dinner table, or reinforcing language strategies during storytime. We're not just your child's speech therapists but yours, too.
3. Generalization: Making Skills Stick
Another important piece of the puzzle is generalization, the ability to take skills learned in therapy and apply them in real life. It's one thing for your child to use a new word or sound with their SLP during a session, but can they use it at home with siblings? At school with peers? On a video call with Grandma?
The more opportunities your child has to use their skills across different settings and communication partners, the faster they'll internalize and retain what they've learned. That's why we coach families on how to build communication-rich environments so your child can use their voice confidently, anywhere.
4. Diagnosis and Severity of Needs
Every child starts their therapy journey at a different point. Some children have mild speech delays that may resolve in a few months. Others have more complex diagnoses like apraxia, autism, or global developmental delays that may require longer-term, ongoing support.
We tailor each therapy plan based on your child's needs, age, and developmental stage. During your child's initial evaluation, your therapist will recommend the right frequency and focus areas for therapy. And along the way, we'll continuously reassess and adjust based on progress.
So… How Long Will It Take?
There's no one-size-fits-all timeline. But here's what we can promise:
We'll walk with you every step of the way.
We'll celebrate your child's wins, big and small.
We'll adjust, refine, and advocate as your child grows.
And we'll never lose sight of what matters most: helping your child develop the communication skills they need to lead a full, connected life.
Every child deserves a voice, and every parent deserves a trusted partner on that journey.
